ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tony G. Hammond

From Chester to Upper Darby.
From the U.S. Navy to the Red Sea.
From America back to Africa.

Tony G. Hammond is an American novelist whose life experiences form the emotional and spiritual backbone of Onyx Redemption.

Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, and raised during his high school years in Upper Darby, just outside Philadelphia, Tony grew up in one of the most culturally diverse school districts in the United States. His classmates came from India, Laos, Greece, Vietnam, Korea, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Armenia, Chile, Eastern Europe, Afghanistan, and beyond.

That environment shaped him profoundly and planted a question that would follow him into adulthood.

Where do I come from?

As an African American teenager, Tony carried pride in his identity alongside a quiet longing to understand his ancestral origins. Years later, DNA testing revealed two powerful lineages.

Fulani paternal ancestry Northern Nigeria.
Akan maternal ancestry Ghana.

Those discoveries awakened something ancient.

Tony served in the United States Navy, deploying to Egypt in the 1990s. During that deployment, a snorkeling incident in the Red Sea nearly claimed his life. A sudden leg cramp pulled him beneath the surface, leaving him fighting for air. He survived, but the experience marked him deeply, bringing vivid dreams, heightened spiritual awareness, and a persistent sense that he had been spared for a reason.

Nearly three decades later, that reason began to reveal itself.

In 2023, Tony traveled to Ghana with Jay Cameron’s Maximum Impact Travel. At Assin Manso, the final river enslaved Africans touched before being forced across the Atlantic, something broke open. He wept uncontrollably, not from grief alone, but from recognition.

Ancestral memory.
Unfinished history.
A calling.

That moment became the spiritual foundation of Onyx Redemption, a Pan African, African American epic blending military realism, ancestral prophecy, geopolitics, and African mysticism.

Today, Tony is the founder of Onyx Redemption Media Group LLC, dedicated to reclaiming identity, honoring ancestors, and creating powerful cinematic stories for the global African diaspora.
